Overview

The short version

Professors in the Electronics Department managed components — breadboards, transistors, resistors, wires, motors — for numerous practical projects across multiple semesters and classes using manual calculation and spreadsheets. I owned the UX design for a web application that automated the whole thing.

Challenge

A professor’s dilemma

With around 8 projects per semester, 50–60 students per class, and 3–4 classes per semester, manual tracking led to:

  • Time-consuming micromanagement calculating needs, distributing, and collecting equipment.
  • Inventory discrepancies between what went out and what came back.
  • Slow class preparation due to manual stock checks.
  • Shortages with no early warning that there wasn’t enough for everyone.

My role

Designing for clarity and speed

As the dedicated designer on the team I:

  • Mapped the site structure for both inventory management and project setup.
  • Translated it into low- and mid-fidelity wireframes to validate flows and reduce friction.
  • Designed a clean, minimal UI optimized for non-technical faculty.
  • Defined the visual style — layout, typography, and hierarchy — for clarity and speed.
