Overview

The short version

Vybho grew out of my own move to the USA in 2022 for a Master’s degree. Finding off-campus housing, meeting people from a similar background, and figuring out an unfamiliar place was isolating. Vybho is a community platform for Indian students and employees relocating to the USA and Canada — designed to build a support network before you even land.

Challenge

A personal journey, a universal problem

Newcomers need a few things quickly and reliably, and today they get them from fragmented, unfiltered social media groups:

  • Reliable accommodation — a trusted way to find housing or roommates.
  • Community and support — peers from similar backgrounds for advice and companionship.
  • Practical information — local events, resources, and help from people who have done it.
  • Safe, targeted interactions — asking for help without broadcasting to strangers.

My role

Designing empathy into every interaction

Using first-hand experience as primary research, complemented by observing others in the same situation:

  • Information architecture that keeps flights, housing, events, and help one tap apart.
  • Wireframes and interactive prototypes to test whether each feature was discoverable.
  • UI design prioritizing clarity, warmth, and approachability so the app feels trustworthy.
  • Design-to-development — currently leading the build with AI-assisted tooling.

Enter flight details to find people on the same route and connect before departure.

Accommodation hub

Post rooms, search for roommates, or find rentals with photos and rent details.

Event discovery

Location- and time-based community and cultural events.

Post questions filtered by university, location, or language.

Friends and groups

Friend-only chat and language-based groups for safe, meaningful interaction.
