Weknd — AI-personalized day and weekend planner

Overview

The short version

Deciding what to do with free time takes more effort than it should: one app for weather, another for restaurants, a third for events, a group chat to agree on a budget. Weknd is an AI-powered planner that asks a few questions once — interests, who’s going, budget, travel distance, energy level — and generates a personalized day or weekend plan that adapts to the weather and to what you actually enjoyed last time.

Challenge

Free time shouldn’t start with research

Talking to friends and looking at my own weekends, the same friction showed up every time:

  • Too many sources. Weather, maps, review sites, event listings, and social media all hold one piece of the answer.
  • Generic recommendations. “Top 10 things to do” lists ignore budget, group, distance, and mood.
  • Plans break on contact with reality. Rain, a late start, or a closed venue and the whole day needs replanning.
  • Decision fatigue. By the time a plan is agreed, the afternoon is gone.

My role

Vision, experience strategy, and the build

Weknd is a solo product, so I own it end to end:

  • Product vision: defined the user problem, positioning (“we plan, you enjoy”), and the free vs. premium feature structure.
  • Onboarding design: a conversational, one-question-per-screen flow (name, age, who’s going, budget, distance, interests) that feels like a chat rather than a form.
  • Personalization model: designed preference calibration that learns from saved, swapped, and favorited activities to improve future plans while keeping variety.
  • Brand and UI: a dark, evening-out palette with a warm serif display, cream “plan cards”, a single orange accent, and hand-drawn illustration.
  • Build: designed in Figma and being developed with AI-assisted tooling.

Solution

Ask a little, plan a lot, adapt on the day

The experience is organized around three promises the onboarding makes explicit: weather-aware, built around you, and easy to change.

Conversational onboarding

“You can call me…”, “I’m __ years old”, a slider instead of a dropdown — small touches that make setup feel personal and fast.

Weather-aware plans

Weknd checks the forecast and suggests plans that fit the day, with indoor alternatives ready if it rains.

Plan built around you

Who’s going (solo, couple, group), budget ($ to $$$), and distance (25 km slider) shape every recommendation.

Day and weekend itineraries

Multiple activities — food, outdoors, events, relaxation, at-home — organized into an easy-to-follow timeline.

Swap, save, share

Swap an activity, favorite a place, save a plan for later, or share it with the people going.

Learns without getting boring

Repeat favorites are supported while the recommendation mix keeps variety.
